Attendees won’t be asked to wear masks or socially distance at next month’s ceremony.
The 2021 Brit Awards ceremony will take place next month with a live audience. A 4,000-strong crowd will venture to London’s O2 Arena on 11 May for the annual awards ceremony, which will feature performances from Dua Lipa, Headie One and Arlo Parks. The audience is being invited along to attend in-person as part of the UK government’s on-going research into the return of live events and the safe reopening of venues.
Audience members won’t be required to wear masks or follow social distancing measures. However, they will need to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 lateral flow test. They will also be asked to take a test after the event, for research purposes.
The Brit Awards ceremony is the latest addition to the government’s Events Research Programme, or ERP. Earlier this week, a non-socially distanced 5,000-capacity concert in Liverpool’s Sefton Park was announced as part of the same scheme.
2,500 Brit Awards tickets are being made available to key workers (“and a guest of their choice”) from the greater London area, who can apply via a ballot system. The ballot system opens today (22 April) at 12pm (BST). It’s worth noting that all applicants and attendees acquiring tickets in this way must consent to take place in the Event Research Programme. “This has been a long tough year for everyone and I’m delighted the night will honour the key worker heroes who have cared for us so well during that time and continue to do so,” said 2021 Brit Awards nominee and performer Dua Lipa in a statement.
“They are quite simply an inspiration. The Brit Awards are always special and this will truly make it a night to remember.”
