Cellist and composer Patrick Belaga turns in “an Americana mix” that traces the last 60 years of US history and music.
If you’re not familiar with Belaga, his debut on PAN – the Blutt LP – would be a good place to start. Though, he’s no newcomer either, having previously scored films and documentaries such as Lady Gaga’s Five Foot Two. On his debut LP, he melds together haunting piano melodies with electronics and field recordings to produce an album that’s both tense and serene at once.
On his Crack Mix, he writes: “I believe the singular most important contribution my country has made to the world has been a long legacy of musical innovation, and I set out to highlight some of the artists who have had the biggest impact on my life. To shed light on their brilliance and their universality as creators of sonic art.” Hit play for tracks by Hole, Nina Simone and more.
