A tribute mix to the late composer.
Earlier this year, in May, news arrived that the Italian composer, singer and filmmaker Franco Battiato had passed away. At age 76, the artist died in his home in Milo, Sicily.
With a career that spanned across four decades, Battiato mastered several different disciplines. In the visual arts field, he painted under the moniker Süphan Barzani. His music, itself, freewheeled across genres like pop, progressive rock, new wave and electronic. And, furthermore, in 1984, the singer represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song I treni di Tozeur, which he performed alongside fellow Italian artist Alice.
The musician had a brilliant career that saw him inspire different generations of artists. Today, he leaves behind a legacy with Italian producers such as Chevel and TSVI who cite him as a key influence in their sound. Chevel is an artist who, like Battiato, takes a sprawlingly broad approach to his productions. As a tribute, Chevel – aka Dario Tronchin – curates a specialist mix, made entirely of Battiato’s own works. RIP.
