After the recent acquisition of Ortigia Sound, the reimagined festival arrives this month with artists including Modeselektor and Max Cooper on the programme.
Since 2014, Ortigia has been home to one of Europe’s best-loved boutique dance music festivals. This year, a new team led by artistic director Rosalie De Meyer has taken the reins, and will present the first edition of Ortigia Music [formerly Ortigia Sound System] following the acquisition of Ortigia Sound by Alessandro Ricci and Stéphane Gurov. Marking a clear break from the festival’s past, the new team aims to preserve its original spirit while building a sustainable, forward-looking event.
Taking place from 31 July to 3 August in the historic town of Ortigia, Sicily, the programme will kick off at local venue Antico Mercato and close with a Sunday night party at Varco 23. The daytime Lido stage will be dedicated to artists from the local scene, while the epipoli stage will run from from 11pm to 7am each night. Alongside the main stage performances, boat parties will take place across the weekend, as well as a daytime beach showcase curated with local record store Malamore.
Highlights include shows from Max Cooper (live) and Modeselektor, with artists including Tatyana Jane, DJ Python, Elkka, Steffi b2b Virginia also and Bambounou also on the bill.
