Crack Mix 609: Josi Devil

Techno Bass Ambient

Bristol-based DJ, producer and sonic enigma Josi Devil is a force to be reckoned with. Bruising basslines, curiosity driven genre-blurring and a love of sound design make the Hessle Audio favourite a captivating presence on both the airwaves and the dancefloor.

For this week’s Crack Mix, Josi Devil brings a trademark exploration of bass music spanning avante garde jazz, dub, techno and garage, with a sprinkling of cuts from his upcoming No More EP, released on 10 October via Nervous Horizons. Let it build and enjoy the ambience along the way. Get locked in.

Where: Bristol

What: My work as Josi Devil is consistently about exploring the link between experimental sound design, ambience and texture, and how those elements play a role in what I believe are the foundational pillars of the bass music I’m interested in.

When: I think that’s totally up for interpretation, we all experience and listen to music differently.

Why: Making music for me is the result of inspiration and shows itself as an addictive creative itch. It’s been like that for as long as I can remember. If it’s going right, it should have a brain numbing effect comparable to sinking hours into a video game or TV show.

Josi Devil will perform at No Bounds Festival, which takes place from 10-12 October in Sheffield.
