The book will accompany Wiley’s long-awaited album, Godfather, which is due to drop this coming September
Grime don Wiley has announced that he will release a book this autumn detailing his life in grime, the music scene he helped spawn in the late 90s.
According to its Amazon listing the book will be titled Wiley: The Autobiography and will offer an “unprecedented insight into [Wiley]’s life and the birth of the music scene that transformed London urban culture.”
The blurb on Amazon reads, “Wiley is one of the most influential figures in the UK grime scene. As a producer and MC his pioneering influence has paved the way for many of today’s best known grime stars and mainstream musicians. From massive chart success to helping guide and open doors for other artists, Wiley has truly been and continues to be an iconic figure in not just urban music but the British music scene as a whole. In this his first official autobiography he will give fans unprecedented insight into his life and the birth of the music scene that transformed London urban culture.”
The book’s publisher Hodder & Stoughton posted a statement on Instagram, “Very happy to have closed this deal today. For the past 9 years I have worked alongside [Wiley]. The word genius gets thrown around a lot but Wiley truly is one.” They said of the grime MC, “Together we have sold millions of records and toured every inch of the globe. I’m grateful to have played a small role in such a amazing story. Also been through every emotion and crazy experience possible. I’m excited for everyone to read and see the story of this true musical icon I’m proud to call my client and friend.”
Wiley also announced earlier this year that he is working on a film which will feature fellow grime MC’s including Dizzee Rascal, Crazy Titch and more. “Crazy Titch is in my film. Durrty Goodz is in my film. Dizzee’s in my film.” He told Unilad back in February, “I can’t lie, and I wouldn’t lie about their character either. I would show their character in the correct light.”
