Charlotte Gainsbourg has unveiled the video for Deadly Valentine – and Dev Hynes has a starring role.
Self-directed by Gainsbourg, the video follows a relationship throughout the years, with Gainsbourg and Hynes playing the couple at the heart of the narrative.
Talking to Dazed, Gainsbourg said: “I asked my friend, Dev Hynes, if he would accept to play my partner, and he very graciously did. It was fun finding his younger and older selves!”
The release follows first single Rest, which also boasted a video directed by Gainsbourg. In a statement to Pitchfork, the singer and actor stated that Danish director Lars Von Trier – who directed Gainsbourg in Antichrist, Melancholia and Nymphomaniac – urged her to self-direct the clip.
Deadly Valentine is taken from Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Rest, her first album in seven years and the follow-up to IRM. The album features contributions from Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Sir Paul McCartney, SebastiAn, Owen Pallett and Connan Mockasin. It lands on 19 November.
