Death Cab for Cutie announced for Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival

In February, The Cure’s Robert Smith was announced as the curator for Meltdown Festival’s 2018 edition.

Now, the second wave of acts for Smith’s instalment has been revealed, confirming Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit, God Is An Astronaut, Low, Suzanne Vega and more for the programme.

The Cure frontman will close out the festival himself on 24 June, with a special two-hour show called CURÆTION-25. The exclusive performance will see him joined on stage by, according to the press release, “four curious friends”.

Furthermore, Sigur Ros singer Jónsi will team up with Alex Somers and composer Paul Corley for the UK premiere of Liminal – an immersive live sound experience.

Elsewhere on the line-up announcement, there’ll be DJ sets from Kiasmos and Vessels.

Those previously announced for Smith’s line-up include My Bloody Valentine – who are making their live comeback this year – Deftones, The Libertines, Manic Street Preachers, Mogwai and Placebo.

First established in 1993, Meltdown is the UK’s longest-running artist-curated festival. Previous curators have included John Peel, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Massive Attack, Ray Davies, Yoko Ono and David Byrne. Last year the event programme was curated by former Crack cover star M.I.A.

The festival will be held at Southbank Centre on 15-24 June. Find more information here.
