Ryuichi Sakamoto adds Alva Noto and Haruomi Hosono to MODE events series

The Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto

The pioneering Japanese composer has been announced as the curator behind MODE’s first programme.

The month-long series will see Sakamoto kickstart the programme with a special performance of Two – a collaborative live show with Alva Noto – at London’s Barbican Centre on 20 June. The second event on the programme is a screening of CODA: a documentary on the Japanese artist’s musical trajectory and activism, followed up by a Q+A with Sakamoto.

Furthermore, Haruomi Hosono – a former member of Yellow Magic Orchestra with Sakamoto – is set to perform his first ever UK show, bringing his solo works to the Barbican on 23 June. Elsewhere on the schedule, Sakamoto has confirmed Beatrice Dillon, Osaka band Goat, Kukangendai and Yunohana Variations for the series.

MODE will be presented by Thirty Three Thirty Three. Head here for more information.
