As 2023 approaches, we are asking artists to reflect on the year just gone through a series of mixes built from new music they’ve discovered or enjoyed in 2022.
Haseeb Iqbal pours everything into his output, and many of us have been the beneficiaries of this at least once a week throughout 2022. For those tuning into his Worldwide FM broadcasts, it was impossible not to get the sense that the London DJ and poet lives for sharing music. More often than not, his intricately curated selections are bolstered by a detailed account of their histories – a constant reminder of the music’s inextricability to power, struggle and resistance. A fan in the truest sense of the word, his untempered passion for discovery and connection is palpable in all his does – including this very mix, which features plenty of his 2022 favourites.
“2022 has been a really exciting and energising year for culture in the UK and all around the world. I have been privileged enough to maintain a weekly radio show throughout this whole period, speaking to a number of musicians, constantly impressed by their creativity and output,” says Iqbal.
“It feels particularly special after a couple of tricky years for music and I feel like the momentum is only growing. Festivals managed to offer us this in a live context throughout summer and I feel so inspired and excited about next year. I had a really great time putting this together – thanks for getting me involved. 2023 will be a treat!”
