As 2023 approaches, we are asking artists to reflect on the year just gone through a series of mixes built from new music they’ve discovered or enjoyed in 2022.
Mercury is a rapper, musician and skateboarder whose life and works are every bit as fascinating as that wide spread of pursuits suggests. The Atlanta-based artist, who came to the fore definitively in 2022, channels a vibrant vitality within her music, rapidly shifting through moods and energies via her surreal-tinged sonic world that draws as much on avant-garde electronica and pop as it does glacial trap.
Having released her debut MERCTAPE in 2021, this past year has seen a continued ascent for Mercury, with her tabula rasa project landing in April, and the recent fearMercury EP delivering high-energy, rave-indebted tracks to round off 2022.
“A magical mix of my favs! Hope you enjoy,” she says of her year-end mix, which spans hip-hop, rap and R&B tracks from Liv.e, MIKE, 454 – who co-produced tabula rasa track RASTA PASTA – and more, reflecting the eclecticism of Mercury’s own work (which can also be heard in the recording, too).
