“Everything is becoming science fiction. From the margins of an almost invisible literature has sprung the intact reality of the 20th century.”
So said J. G. Ballard in 1971, referring not to the technological utopia of the science fiction of his childhood, but the nightmarish hellscapes he helped popularise.
Richard Fearless, chief agent of Death in Vegas, mines a similar industrial chill, so it’s no surprise to see him using Ballard as a reference for his twisted electronica. With his first album under his own name, Deep Rave Memory, released in November, here we find Fearless delving deep into his troubled subconscious.
