Brainfeeder, the LA-born, Flying Lotus-founded label that’s been home at one time or another to the likes of Thundercat, Kamasi Washington, Salami Rose Joe Lewis and Georgia Anne Muldrow, is marking its 15th anniversary in 2023.
You may have noticed us reflecting on the milestone through a new feature that invites just some of the label’s inventive roster to share their favourite releases from their fellow signees – plus stacks of fond memories and tales from their time with the imprint.
Here we offer a retrospective of a different kind – a new specialist mix from Paul Preston, AKA longtime Brainfeeder affiliate, artist and the label project manager PBDY.
“I’m super honoured to be asked to create this mix and represent for the label,” he begins, “For this mix, I decided to focus on the last five years or so – for the most part – to showcase the more recent side of Brainfeeder. There have been so many amazing releases throughout the years and loads of new additions to the roster, so I hope this mix will give folks a glimpse into our future while enticing new fans to look back at our past.”
Concluding, Preston says: “Thank you for having me and I’m humbled to share this mix with you all. BrainBrainBrainBrainfeeder…”
