Berlin-based, British-born underground hero Christian AB takes the reigns for Crack Mix 584. It follows the release of his debut full-length album The Nu Life, which came out earlier this month via Ryan Elliot’s Faith Beat imprint.
To celebrate, Christian provides a glimpse into a special moment from London’s subterranean dance music history. Between 2017 and 2019, a hollowed canal boat that was moored between Hackney Wick and the Bow roundabout in East London, formed one of the city’s most legendary afterparty spots. With non-stop raves that would often last days, many of the world’s best DJs found themselves on The Boat on a Sunday morning, digging deep into the strangest corners of their record bags in extended sets and impromptu b2bs.
The hour-long mix is a nostalgic, groove-laden journey back to those times, taken from a 2019 Sunday afternoon down the canal. Dive in.
Who: Christian AB
What: Off-kilter house and grooves. 10 more words.
Where: London-born, Berlin-based.
When: Live recording from 2019. An extract from a typical Sunday afternoon extended set on ‘The Boat’ – one of London’s notorious after hours spots. This set holds a lot of nostalgia, as it was one of the last times I played in London before relocating to Berlin five years ago! Listening to all of these records again makes me reflect on so many beautiful memories.
Why: Freedom of expression… no rules.
