Commodo has a knack for head-turning productions.
For over a decade, the Sheffield-born artist has been intricately fine-tuning his brooding and evocative sound, drawing from dubstep, hip-hop and grime to create something entirely unique to him. As adept at crafting boisterous face-melters as he is sleeker, more minimal offerings, in February the producer took fans on a tour through yet another side of his palette as he mined rap and 90s punk guitar influences for his latest release, Deft 1s.
An elusive figure, Commodo prefers to let his music speak for itself. He did have a few words to say on his system-rattling Crack Mix, however, which hop-steps between frenetic US rap, Bristol-rooted dubstep, experimental pop and more.
“[This is] a mix of tracks I’ve been enjoying from 140 bpm producers and underground rappers, with some of my own more recent productions thrown in,” he tells us. “It was definitely fun finding the common thread.”
