CORIN, aka Corin Ileto, is the producer, composer and NTS regular behind last month’s Lux Aeterna LP for the Lee Gamble-helmed UIQ imprint. Her second album, the release was an exploration of the “idea of sound as a sentient being” and tapped into Ileto’s background in theatre and sound design.
For her Crack Mix, shared in anticipation of a live show at Czech gathering Lunchmeat – where her performance will feature visuals from video artist and longtime collaborator Tristan Jalleh – CORIN also forgoes a more loosely-tied curatorial approach for something altogether conceptual: a textured and foreboding mix of sci-fi soundtracks.
“I’ve strung together a selection of soundtracks from science fiction films that have inspired my sound as a composer and producer, including my most recent release Lux Aeterna,” CORIN tells us over email.
She adds: “I was attempting to find a thread across recurring motifs that I hear across this collection of OSTs that are from both past and present. Ethereal alien textures, post-human voices, unnerving strings, mechanical percussion, celestial synths and outer-dimensional sound design. I’m inspired by how these elements contribute to the otherworldly realms of these films, creating a dynamic tension between sounds derived from nature, man and machine.”
CORIN plays Lunchmeat Festival, Prague, on 25-30 September
