DJ Plead is a key figure on Australia’s sprawling club scene.
His most recent EP, Going For It on Livity Sound, encapsulates DJ Plead’s (aka Jarred Beeler’s) unique, idiosyncratic style: heavy, percussive club belters influenced by traditional Lebanese wedding music and Middle Eastern-influenced rhythms.
As parts of the world are heading back into lockdown, this mix reflects that in-between limbo state of closed clubs, isolation and a contorted version of normal. Beeler writes: “I’ve been really struggling to make dance mixes while clubs have been shut.”
“This mix comes off the back of playing a handful of sets in the brief, surreal period of legal dancing before our most recent lockdown in Sydney. I find myself sticking it out in the slower tempos these days as I still feel a bit disconnected from high-tempo dance music.”
