The latest in our Crack Mix series comes courtesy of Brooklyn’s DJ Wawa, who turns in a house-driven, playful and gently ecstatic set that brings to mind the warmth of a peak-time dancefloor and long summer afternoons spent relaxing with loved ones in equal measure. The mix also offers insight into some of DJ, producer and Hit Factory Records co-founder’s recent record store finds.
Speaking on the mix over email, Wawa explains that it was recorded in the early hours at the Hit Factory, and features tracks acquired during trips to local stores such as Human Head in Brooklyn – which “supplies the dopest dance cuts”.
“Right now, I’m in a cycle of playing dope records for people so I can get paid to buy more dope records and play them to [more] people,” Wawa adds. “It’s a job and it’s work, but it’s also a blessing and a privilege that I get to do the thing that I love and it involves sharing them with others. However you’re currently feeling about music, I hope you can forget about all the BS for a moment and listen to the tunes. They’re very good!”
