Yesterday, Ennio Morricone died aged 91. Having scored over 500 films, worked with celebrated directors and orchestrated many iconic meetings of picture and sound, he was practically peerless. In observance of his legacy, musician and writer James Balmont compiles a short selection of Morricone’s catalogue for this mix.
“By mixing classic themes and well-known motifs with obscure moments of magic (check out the psychedelic ’60s number from Diabolik) I’ve attempted to paint as broad a picture as possible of Ennio Morricone,” Balmont said of the mix.
“As a kid, I was spellbound by Morricone’s scores to Sergio Leone’s epic spaghetti westerns (A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West) and it was these works that opened the door for me to a whole world of cinematic music.”
