There’s a lot to like about Gayance. The Montreal-born DJ and producer otherwise known as Aïsha Vertus has spent the last decade enlightening her mind and expanding her network through some serious globe-trotting.
Across self-releases and DJ sets, the artist – who takes her alias from the Haitian creole word for joyfulness – has studiously honed her craft, weaving the sounds and stories of these adventures into her sun-drenched music, which she’s amusingly self-described as “jazzy-house with Brazilian spices so you can make out with your crush.”
Her Crack Mix, shared ahead her debut album Mascarade – which lands on 3 March via London’s Rhythm Section – expertly embodies Gayance’s dancefloor-skewing approach. So get stuck into a set of “soulful, heavy bass-infused party ambience paired with some natural red wine” that entices from the outset and refuses to let up.
