South London-raised DJ and producer Hagan has lots to be excited about this week. There’s his rich and uplifting Crack Mix, of course, which is filled with “smooth cuts and contagious grooves” from KOKOROKO, Gina Jeanz, Karen Nyame KG and more. Then there’s his forthcoming debut album Textures, which he’ll be sharing with the world on Friday (7 October).
The new record is a celebratory showcase of cultures and collaborators close to Hagan’s heart, and was recorded between Ghana and London. Hagan’s proven percussive sensibilities, club-driven approach and affinity for genres such as UK funky, Afro house, highlife and more shines through – as do more personal themes, and styles such as jazz. Taken as a whole, it makes for a warm and inviting listen. Much like this very mix, then, which Hagan has described as “sounds to move the dance”.
