Crack Mix 398:
Jimmy Edgar

Bass Experimental Hip-Hop Rap

Jimmy Edgar makes confident, bold and head-turning music.

Whether he’s blurring the lines between slick rap and funky electronic motifs or knee-deep in futuristic R&B and techno, his style is less about following any one genre norm and instead finding new ways to manipulate various ideas simultaneously.

The Detroit native returns next week (26 February) with a brand new solo album titled Cheetah Bend. He’s taken some time away from solo pursuits of late, opting for a swarm of choice collaborative projects (such as his J-E-T-S output with Machinedrum), or behind-the-scenes productions for other artists instead. On his latest, however, he’s looking back at his storied career and pooling together the grab-bag of sounds he’s picked up along the way.

His Crack Mix is a preview of what’s in store on the new project; all meticulously crafted, rap-indebted and made up of entirely his own work. “This mix is the Cheetah Gold mix that contains the wireframes of music that I was making during the time of Cheetah Bend,” says Edgar. “Thank you for listening!”
