2021 saw the release of Kedr Livanskiy’s fourth album, Liminal Soul. Given the artist’s output and overall sonic direction to date, the record was expectedly otherworldly. A nine-track lesson in subtlety that enlivened the senses through organic and synthetic manipulation, and enough textures to rival a fabric store.
Much like the album – or more recent track Golubka, which featured on Ukraine fundraising compilation Stop the War! – today’s Crack Mix orbits a similar realm. Neither outwardly uplifting nor entirely downcast, it’s a subdued entry that teams emotional anthems such as Mssingno’s CAYA with experimental works by the likes of Loraine James, Filter Dread and Circadian Rhythms’ Escha. “With this mix,” says Livanskiy, “I conjure the speedy approach of spring.”
