High-energy hardcore, hard house and trance, and more from Barcelona-based DJ, producer and House of (S)PUNK founder La Fraicheur.
When we caught up with the French artist – a resident of Berlin’s Gegen – back in 2022, she spoke of House of (S)Punk’s “multifaceted” musical direction and underlying themes. “While we take our culture very seriously,” she said. “We don’t take ourselves seriously. There is a playfulness to our music and how we run the party.”
The same rules (or lack thereof) apply here as well, as La Fraicheur taps into an unceasing reserve of fervent yet playful cuts for this all-vinyl mix. “Half of the records are some of the very first I ever bought over 20 years ago when I started DJing, and the other half are records [are from my] favourite treasure chest in Barcelona,” she tells us.
Providing more context to the mix, which doubles a rare opportunity to hear a La Fraicheur set outside of a club setting, she says: “The rare times I do record a mixtape is a way for me to ‘retire’ my favourite tracks. This way people just discovering me will have a perfect idea of who I am by listening to whatIi have played the most, yet won’t hear those tracks on the dancefloor later. And people who follow and have danced with me have a nice nostalgic throwback capsule, bringing up memories of moments and music shared together.
This mixtape is a blend of what I have played at Gegen, House of (S)PUNK and WHOLE Festival.”
