It’s Latin Heritage Month, an annual celebration of the cultures and contributions of Latin American and Hispanic communities. Here at Crack Magazine, we’re adopting the term ‘Latin’ to also celebrate the contributions of Brazilian, Indigenous, and other non-Spanish speaking communities. We’ll be commemorating the occasion with a series of mixes spotlighting regional styles and music traditions past and present, presented by a selection of contemporary artists.
Today’s mix, which lands on Mexican Independence Day (16 September), comes from Mexico City-based juke producer Sonido Berzerk. Coming in at just shy of 90 minutes, his offering touches on all shades of club music and makes for a pretty irresistible listen.
“For this mix, I tried to blend some Afro and cumbia-infused tracks of my own with music from Mexican and Latin artists such as Dengue Dengue Dengue! and Zutzut, plus tunes from other artists I admire and have had profound impact on my sound,” says Berzerk. “I also included other rhythms I love such as speed dembow, baile funk and footwork, represented by Siu Mata, Adame DJ and Orion, along with some reggaeton and classic Puerto Rican dembow.”
