Magi Merlin is on the rise.
Over the past year or so, the Montreal-based artist has released an EP (March’s Drug Music), a smattering of singles and teased a forthcoming album project entitled Weather Music (with each instalment in the deconstructed album series set to explore a different season). Tunes like To the Beach, released last month, are best described as melt-into-your-sofa-songs; lush, lulling offerings that dip through syrupy R&B and neo-soul while making space for Merlin’s enchanting vocals and reflective lyrics.
For her Sunday Mix, Merlin pulls together feel-good tracks and roof-down bops from artists like Burna Boy, WizKid, Yussef Kamaal and Pip Millett. “This mix embodies what good moods, sunshine and summertime feel like,” she tells Crack Magazine over email. “A collection of some of my favourite earworms, ones that melt my ice cream and warm my soul.”
