Since her last full-length solo release in 2018, the acclaimed Working Class Woman for Ninja Tune, Marie Davidson has been ushering in a more song-based approach that veers away from the club and aligns itself closer to styles such as pop, folk and rock. Her collaborative releases as Marie Davidson & L’Œil Nu facilitated this shift away from the dance music ventures she had been associated with ahead of her “departure” from the live club scene in 2019.
But the Montréal producer’s steadfast appetite for chugging beats and squelchy synths endures, as evidenced through current explorations into the DJ-ing side of her repertoire as well as this very addition to the Crack Mix series, which charges through muscular electro, hard techno and full-bodied EBM. Not one for the faint-hearted.
