Nkisi is a force to be reckoned with.
Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but now residing in London, the DJ-producer continues to push the limitations of conventional club music through her appreciation of the obscure.
This mix is a homage to the German label who released her first album, 21, in 2015. Titled ‘Haunting of the World… A tribute to Doomcore Records’, the producer stitches together tracks from the label’s sonically dark back catalogue.
“The present is always haunted by the future,” Nkisi writes. “Doomcore introduces us to a cosmology of darkness, a phantasy of dark air and invisible presence. It functions as a sonic embodiment of the obscure Other. [I’m] forever grateful to Doom genius Low Entropy for believing in my music.”
Nkisi is a panelist in the ‘Post-pandemic editorial logic’ roundtable as part of Semibreve 2020
