Julmud is an interdisciplinary artist based in Ramallah, Palestine. A key player within the city’s local music scene, he’s best known for his work as a producer, percussionist, keyboardist and vocalist. He’s also part of local rap collective Saleb Wahed, which he formed alongside contemporaries such as Haykal, MC Riyadiyat and Al Nather. Together, the crew struck out to deconstruct hip-hop and other rap styles and reimagine them through a lens that better aligns with their lives, experiences and culture.
Last week, Julmud released his stellar debut album, Tuqoos, via Bilna’es, a hybrid publishing platform helmed by Palestinian artist Muqata’a and New York-based visual artists Ruanne Abou-Rahme and Basel Abbas. In honour of its release, he’s stitched together a mix of intrepid rap and frenetic hip-hop from the likes of Abul3ees, Lil Asaf and Dodongull, along with some tracks from the new album and a song from Tunisia’s KTYB. An essential listen.
