Welcome back to the Pop Zone, a monthly series in which some of our favourite artists present a mix of captivating pop goodness. Today, we have a recording from Hackney duo 0171.
The pair, a.k.a Joe Bedell-Brill and Georgie Hoare, self-released their third EP last week. Entitled Welcome Back to My Channel, the project was mostly written in a cottage in Wales, with its recording process acting as a type of extended therapy session following a period the pair have described as “our lowest point in music”.
On their journey into the Pop Zone, the duo touch on the future-facing pop, electronic and other alternative sounds that inform their work. Over email, the pair called the mix “a cute genre-leaping journey through the slightly tongue-in-cheek world of atmosphere that inspired our new EP. Featuring big 80s emotion, plastic turn-of-the-millennium emotion, and the eerie, almost real emotion of 0171”.
