Welcome back to the Pop Zone, a monthly series in which some of our favourite artists present a mix of captivating pop goodness.
Himera’s productions create a fantastical rave euphoria powered by trance maximalism and high-octane hyperpop. Last year the Amsterdam-based DJ and producer released their latest album Sharing Secrets – via New York collective and label unseelie – purveying their intricate and dizzying electronic wizardry and featuring contributions from fellow PC Music aligned artists Hannah Diamond, Golin and Petal Supply.
“I think there’s a lot of fun in ‘mangling’ pop songs, manipulating vocals into sounding like an instrument or synth, making room for silence and choppy percussion, having an abundance of interchanging melodies and passages,” Himera tells us. “There’s a certain satisfaction I get when someone manages to maintain the quality of a good pop song while almost fully ignoring the rules of pop.”
Himera plays Rewire Festival, The Hague, 6-9 April.
