Pop Zone: Quinn Christopherson

Pop R&B Hip-Hop Rock Soul

Welcome back to the Pop Zone, a monthly series in which some of our favourite artists present a mix of captivating pop goodness.

Alaskan singer-songwriter Quinn Christopherson started his career performing at open mic nights and dive bars, before 2019’s tender Erase Me shot him into the public consciousness, unpacking the milieu of emotions that surrounded his gender transition. Last September, he shared Write Your Name in Pink, a debut full-length album described by Christopherson as a “celebration of youth, an exercise in forgiveness, and an expression of gratitude to have made it this far.”

Christopherson’s is celebrating his youth here, too, through a raucously poppish mix built largely from late 90s and early 2000’s hits; classics from the likes of Shania Twain, OutKast, Ciara and more. It’s inspired by his father, who has been a wedding DJ since before he was born. Meaning that for Christopherson, pop has a special, sentimental place in his heart – something he’s keen to share with us here.

Speaking on the mix, Christopherson tells us: “I grew up helping my dad set up and soundcheck, and watched him make people move, dance and party while he DJ’d these hits. Hearing these songs always brings me back. He’s always been a performer, and I’m glad he passed that down to me.”
