This is how Preston-born producer, multidisciplinary artist and Fixed Abode label head Rainy Miller describes his Crack Mix, which, upon listening, was destined to be enjoyed in the midst of late autumn.
That’s not to say it’s an altogether bleak or murky mix – it’s not. But rather, much like the works of Burial, say, or perhaps Miller’s cohorts Space Afrika, it’s a fitting accompaniment to drizzly days and diminishing daylight; the kind of mix that both reflects your surroundings and transports you somewhere else entirely.
Over the course of an hour, Miller moves from more spacious, ambient soundscapes into heavier territory, with the occasional flash of something brighter and more uplifting dropped in – reminiscent of sunshine peeking out from behind the clouds. Vocals float across the entire mix too, with varying tones and voices blurring together to form something even more impactful. Track-wise, expect music from the likes of Bladee, AYA and Iceboy Violet, Emma DJ, Kelman Duran, Evita Manji and more.
