Jump in at the deep end this Friday with Scotch Rolex and his head-spinning Crack Mix, built from all manner of abstract mutations, frenetic regional sounds and lurching rhythms. This one’s big from the get-go.
The giddying offering from the Japanese producer born Shigeru Ishihara doubles as diary of his life of late: a self-contained trip, erm, containing music from new friends and a smattering Bandcamp discoveries, before the set winds down with a pair of tunes from Ishihara – link-ups with J. “Mo’ong” Santoso Pribadi and Shackleton (“one of my greatest friends”) respectively. The latter track is lifted from the joint album Death by Tickling.
Not forgetting its opener: “I recently traveled to Indonesia and discovered so much interesting new music and met some amazing musicians along the way. This mix opens up with music from the island of Sumatra,” says Ishihara, “where friends told me about wild wedding celebrations where whole villages dance together non-stop all weekend, fuelled by ecstasy.” But what are you listening to us for?
