Soraya Brouwer is a name you’ll likely be familiar with. As the founder of Truants, the non-profit cultural platform first launched in 2010, she’s spent the last 12 years spotlighting emerging artists and forward-thinking musicians from around the world through features, interviews and indeed, mixes.
Rather relatably, the last two years have brought about a series of changes, challenges and reflective moments within Brouwer’s life. “I spent quite a lot of time between London, Athens and Barcelona trying to make sense of where I needed to be,” Brouwer explains over email. “My exposure to nightlife was limited in my search of belonging, and it wasn’t until recently – when I finally relocated back to my hometown of Amsterdam – that I went back to club spaces as a punter. This time really rekindled my love for electronic music.”
This reignited passion can be felt wholeheartedly in Brouwer’s Crack Mix, which hurtles through whip-smart electro, nimble techno and the blurry spaces in between with unrelenting momentum.
Speaking on the recording, Brouwer says: “This is my first studio mix in a while. The tracklist includes lots of my favourites – many of them, including Beta Librae, soso tharpa and Stenny, have done mixes for Truants in the past. I also added tracks from producers I’ve been obsessing over more recently, too, like Kosh and Gamma Intel.”
