Self taught pianist and saxophonist Brian Allen Simon, better known as his musical persona Anenon, is at the helm of this weekend’s Sunday Mix.
In his own music he examines the chasm of modern and classical jazz and electronic music to create enticing ambient tracks that combine the best elements of both genres. For his mix he aims to take the listener on an eclectic journey, bound by sonic feeling rather than genre; “Morrissey, Triple Six, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Ulla, and yet it all makes sense”, he says.
“I love when mixes are tied together based on sound and energy rather than genre,” Simon continues, “and that kind of sculptural feeling is what I put together here — an energetic crest that gives way to manic noise and then finally to calm acoustics, rounded out by the surrealist drumming of Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, and into one of the finer ambient Actress moments in Jardin.” A perfect sonic Sunday meander awaits, press play and delve on in.
