Sunday Mix: claire rousay

Sunday Experimental Ambient

San Antonio-based musician claire rousay brings a sense of intimacy to musique concrète techniques. Her work could be experienced as different scenes in a play: the stage set with a dazzling backdrop of field recordings – overheard conversations and tumbling metallic clicks, for instance – before a spotlight is shone on carefully composed harmonic phrases that punctuate the significance of these atmospheric elements.

Since 2019, rousay has released well over a dozen projects. Each new offering unearths more of her studious approach, culminating in her spellbinding a softer focus LP, which was released earlier this year via Chicago’s American Dreams Records.

In this week’s Sunday Mix, rousay affords us precious space to practice quiet contemplation. “This mix is the DJ equivalent of a children’s show-and-tell presentation in primary school,” rousay explains over email. “These tracks are some of my favourites, and I wanted to share them with you.”
