Musician and producer John Beltran returns this September with Sunrise And The Life We Live, following February’s Canada – one of Crack’s favourite albums of the year so far. Arriving thirty years after his influential 1996 record Ten Days of Blue, the new ten-track LP returns to the melodic, reflective qualities that defined his early ambient techno work.
Shaped by memory, travel and personal change, Beltran describes the period behind the record as “a great year with the people I love,” adding: “The title speaks for itself. It’s about a life lived full of colour.” Released via Music For Dreams, Sunrise And The Life We Live arrives on LP on 11 September 2026, with digital formats following on 16 October.
For his Sunday Mix, Beltran looks back at the music that shaped his early listening, bringing together formative tracks from Phil Collins, Kate Bush, David Bowie and more. Lean back and listen.
Who: John Beltran.
Can you describe your music in three words? From my heart.
Where are you this Sunday? I play music in a beautiful beer garden in the town I grew up in on Sundays. The place is a huge farm market where you can buy plants, pottery for your plants, groceries, fresh produce, world food items, the best Pizza in town, sushi… Or just have a beer in the garden and listen to me lay down the perfect summer vibes.
What’s your ideal Sunday? My ideal Sunday (when I’m not working) is my son, cat and I just lying around the house. Windows open. No stress.
What’s your ideal soundtrack to it? Cat Stevens – The Wind.
How do you like to unwind away from music? I unwind from music by putting on music that is nothing like mine. A friend once said: “The music you make, listen to, and spin are all entirely different from each other.”
Describe your Sunday mix: My mix is a collection of songs from my youth that still inspire me to this day.
