KEYAH/BLU’s Sunday Mix features many of the qualities that have come to define our weekly series: restorative, unhurried and gently uplifting.
Moving through songs from several of her London contemporaries – your Tirzah’s, Dean Blunt’s and Klein’s, for instance – while also making room for music from the likes of Eartheater, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Jean Dawson, the singer and rapper opens a portal to her own weekend world. She also highlights her recent track Wedding Cake – another link-up with prior collaborator Denzel Himself.
“Sundays, to me, are for cleansing and reflection,” she tells us. “A hot bath and some cooked food, writing and trying to stay sober. I grew up taking showers in front of a wall sticker in the bathroom that read ‘Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life’ – and I’ve always really felt that. I’ve tried to pick some songs that feel like water to me. I hope they help you get clean like they’ve been helping me.”
