Sunday Mix: LEYA

Sunday Experimental Classical

As LEYA, harpist Marilu Donovan and vocalist/violinist Adam Markiewicz are making otherworldly experimental music that merges strings and classical sounds with medieval folk, avant-pop, electronic production and more. Counting Eartheater, Actress, Ecco2K, Okay Kaya and Claire Rousay as collaborators, their creative world is as vast and varied as their sound, with roots firmly planted in the New York underground. For their Sunday Mix, they take a typically eclectic approach with an hour-long, winding and meditative journey through classical, rap, breaks and more. Lean back and listen.

Where: Fresh arrived home from over a month of US touring, chilling in the living room.

What: Ancient but new.

Ideal Sunday? A good recharge, a bubbling up of new things.

What’s your perfect soundtrack to it? The ideal soundtrack is all over the place but hardly gentle.

How do you like to unwind away from music? Friends, cats, weed, dreaming.

Can you describe your Sunday mix? Sunday is a day for all things, like every day, so our mix just explores the usual. I like the feeling of things colliding together.

LEYA will play Amsterdam’s FIBER Festival from May 29 – June 1.
