Li Yilei is a London-based sound artist and the founder of art collective Non Dual 無二行動.
Their output spans an amalgamation of mediums. Picture a fusion of sound and text, installation and photography, all pulled together by a sensitive and minimal approach. Their musical works in particular draw from the urgent, experimental fringes of various genres – things like electronic, psychedelic and noise. 之 / OF, Yilei’s forthcoming album, will offer much of the same. It’ll also examine the concept of time through a fusion of analogue synthesizers, vocal samples and field recordings, plus the violin and guqin.
Their Sunday Mix features two tunes, San and Xun, from the upcoming 12-track project. It also showcases tracks from a cast of female electronic music artists, who, like Yilei, find inspiration in more conceptual or obscure places. Tune in for music from the likes of Wendy Carlos, Annea Lockwood, Kim Gordon, Suzanne Ciani and Pauline Oliveros, plus a sample of pioneering UK composer and BBC Radiophonic Workshop founder Daphne Oram.
