Sunday Mix: Mehmet Aslan

Electro Sunday Jazz Ambient Synth Dub Classical

Mehmet Aslan’s work – as a DJ, producer and curator – is founded in sonic exploration. And on his latest compilation Senza Decoro: Liebe & Anarchia in Switzerland 1980-1990, this curiosity for musical obscurities saw him delve into the Swiss post-punk, experimental and electronic landscape of the 80s.

For his striking Sunday mix, Aslan takes us on a sonic voyage that showcases the vast breadth of his musical expertise; “I wanted to add a sound from my environment to start the mix and added this calm afternoon sounds recorded out of my window,” he says, “you can hear people walking around, kids shouting and birds chirping, which I found quite a calming afternoon.”

“These sounds fade into the music of Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus,” Aslan continues, “which I recently came across while researching for musicians working with non-human sounds and music. In the end, the mix is intended as something you can let play on the side and bring you to different places.” A truly transportative sonic companion.
