Leeds-founded, London-based music collective Nubiyan Twist relax into the Sunday Mix series with a vibrant set that spotlights their varied and eclectic influences. Band leader Tom Excell takes to the decks for this one, drawing for “hot off the press tracks from the extended NT family as well as some old favourites” from his own collection in the spirit of communal celebration and community upliftment.
Speaking on their groove-laden Sunday Mix over email, the band described the new recording as an encompassment, of sorts, “of some of the flavours that inspire [our] sound, from jazz to Gnawa, Malagasy to Ethiopian [traditional music], broken beat to roots reggae, Afrobeat to hip-hop and beyond.” The perfect mix to lift your spirits on a drizzly Sunday afternoon.
