Sunday Mix: Pleasure Planet

Sunday Ambient

Throughout the late 00s and early 10s, Kim Ann Foxman spent countless hazy evenings gracing stages and moving basements across New York City and beyond as the lead singer of neo-disco forerunners Hercules & Love Affair. She also built a successful solo career as a DJ, known for blending chunky, campy beats with soaring moments of euphoria.

Now, her latest venture sees her take a less pumping approach to music. Kim Ann is now leading new band Pleasure Planet, alongside Andrew Potter and Brian Hersey, with the trio releasing their self-titled debut album at the end of last month. Featuring nine varied tracks that take influence from ambient, 80s EBM and West Coast sounds from the 90s, the music is as suited to chunky soundsystems with dancefloors as headphones in living rooms.

To celebrate the new album and give a peek into their influences, we invited the band to curate a special ‘dreams’ themed Sunday Mix. Full of rich, synthy warmth and nodding downtempo, it’s a relaxed, inward-looking 80-minute journey.
