Sunday Mix: Sam Slater

Sunday Experimental Ambient Folk

Sam Slater is a film composer, producer and sound designer who has worked on projects such as 2019’s Joker movie and the Emmy-winning drama series Chernobyl. His recent album I do not wish to be known as a Vandal featured slow, intense and rousing sound pieces that would easily complement the more introspective moments of any cinematic epic.

Speaking on his stirring Sunday Mix, the Berlin-based composer describes it as an “attempt to dissect some of the soul of my latest record and then poke around in guts for a while”. Spotlighting music by the likes of Ethiopian musician Alemu Aga, Catalan composer Marina Herlop and the late Mira Calix, Slater’s recording is – in his words – “a chunk of sonic gratitude” paid to the artists who influenced his creative process while writing the new album.
