Sunday Mix: Vagabon

Pop Sunday Hip-Hop Club

Vagabon a.k.a. Laetitia Tamko returned to the fore in September with a new album called Sorry I Haven’t Called. The 12-track release is a kaleidoscopic ode to the cathartic powers of dance music born from a time of grief, following the death of Tamko’s best friend. “The only things that were giving me access to a feeling were dance music and going to a rave in an extremely dark club where if I wanted to cry, I could do it and be around other people,” Tamko has previously explained.

As alluded to via the album’s title, it had been some time since we’d be treated to new music from the Cameroon-born, US-based singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, who’s debut album, 2017’s gorgeously tender Infinite Worlds, aligned more with the world of indie rock than the fizzing pop and electronic of her later output.

Tamko’s Sunday Mix leans into her electronic impulses some more, as she shares an upbeat, uptempo collection of sounds and songs that give her pep and vigour on unhurried days. “By the end,” she says, “I’m ready to take on the world.” What you need before heading into a new week.
