Still in a Glastonbury state of mind? Today’s Sunday Mix from Western Soul, recorded last weekend (25 June) on the festival’s West Holts stage, will be the ideal soother for any post-event blues.
Bristol’s Western Soul, AKA Dave Smeaton and Ben Dubuisson, have been DJing on the West Holts stage at Glastonbury since the early 90s, back when it was known as Jazz World. Speaking on their mix – which was recorded live on the sun-soaked Sunday afternoon in between acts like Black Country, New Road, Shabaka Hutchings, Speakers Corner Quartet and Candi Staton – they explain their intentions to set the mood for the acts performing on stage, while also “creating a nice soundtrack for the audience whilst they wait for the bands.”
“We like to mix up new releases with older tracks and, with this mix, we’ve also included a few recent releases by Bristol artists – as a nod to our hometown,” they add. “West Holts is a perfect spot on a Sunday afternoon at Glastonbury; a place to relax and hear some amazing sounds.” Happy listening.
