A true collaborator by nature, Will Lister has always bounced between different styles and genres in his work as a writer, producer and, more recently, member of Thredd – a new band who’ve already supported Nourished by Time on tour – but whether he’s making his own art or shaping another musician’s sound behind the scenes, Lister’s own distinctive flair shines through. You’ll hear it most clearly in this summer’s mixtape, Everything The Same: futuristic soundscapes, hyper-detailed percussion, and a clear point of view.
Lister’s Sunday mix leans into the variety of music he works on, tying threads together with that singular vision. Calling on a range of trusted collaborators – like Ebbb and Lecx Stacy – to repurpose old tracks or start new ones from scratch, it’s 45 minutes of new music ranging from sombre, stripped-back moments to maximalist percussion and discordant sounds. Interwoven with voice notes, spoken word and snippets from sessions, it feels like a journey through his brain. Lean back and listen.
What’s your ideal Sunday? And what are you listening to? Having a roast in a pub somewhere, or making one at home, probably not listening to much.
Can you describe your music in three words? Music for driving.
How do you like to unwind away from music? Cooking and eating. Eating food with friends and loved ones is a treasured experience.
Can you describe your Sunday mix? I wanted to make a bunch of new stuff for this mix and weave it all together somehow, so I hit up some people I work closely with and either made something new with them, or repurposed and included tracks that I’ve worked on in some capacity. It features people I collaborate closely with and truly believe in. There’s some new demos and stuff from me, as well as tracks I’ve produced or have featured on. I then went through a bunch of voice notes on my phone over the past couple years and used snippets from studios/rehearsals/car drives to tie it all together.
