London-based DJ and producer Tim Reaper consistently challenges what jungle can be as a genre, by working novel ideas and a contemporary flair into its foundations.
Armed with ribcage-rattling rhythms that are layered with ambient synths, jazzy stabs and soulful vocals, the Future Retro boss has been distilling his raw style for over a decade now, continuously honing and refining his incendiary sound. Recent releases – such as last month’s Banoffee Pies split EP (a collaboration with Toronto’s Comfort Zone), 2020’s Cityscapes EP and a vital link-up with Special Request over on Hooversound Recordings – do well to showcase his dedication to the genre. They also prove just why Reaper is so deserved of the widespread acclaim he’s attracted in recent years.
Heading up our Crack Mix series, Reaper reaches into his collection for old and new jungle treasures. Featuring tracks from artists such as Comfort Zone, Dwarde, Sully, Phineus II, Eusebeia and Champa B, it’s an explosive hour-long entry from one of the best in the game. Buckle up!
