New York-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and DJ Cesar Toribio touches on the array of genres that make up his musical genetics on today’s Crack Mix.
Taking cues from his work as Conclave – the live musical assembly made up of rotating musicians, helmed by Toribio – the sprawling, near-two-hour-long recording alchemises “jazz, hip-hop, Afro, house, techno, dembow, soul [and] rhythm” into a leisurely listening experience crafted with body-moving intent.
“This mix was done in one live take in my studio, all to show what you might hear from me on any given set,” Toribio tells us. “This mix, just like when I DJ live, starts from a more chill point and builds up to a faster, harder vibe before ending with uplifting music.”
